The highlight of our summer was our trip to New York and North Carolina, ....California, Boston, California again, and Las Vegas. (We flew standby.) Flying standby was quite the adventure. More stories to come, but lets just say if we are to ever fly standby again it better be like giving birth where you forget the pain, or we won't be doing it anytime soon. Although, I can't complain too much because it did save over $1,000, so thanks Kim.
The girls started their vacation on Tuesday when they flew by way of California and New York to North Carolina. John's parents left a couple of days before us and took the girls with them.
They are such seasoned travelers. Hannah and Caroline both started traveling when they were infants, Hannah only three weeks old and Caroline about three months old. They love to travel especially by plane and they are great travelers.
John, Kim and I left a couple of days later with Joshua and Benjamin. It felt so much easier and manageable with only two kids and three adults. John and I scored on the flight from Salt Lake City to North Carolina since the boys both wanted to sit by Kim. Although I ended up sitting next to a guy who wanted to talk the entire flight (which was a red-eye) and the boys both slept, so actually I think Kim scored on that one.
When we were getting ready to take-off Josh kept asking Kim if we were in the air yet. She told him she would let him know when we took off. As we started ascending Josh said, "We are blasting into outer space." What a cute kid! Benjamin just sat there perfectly still with a big smile on his face. He was great to sit in his seat and put on his seat belt. It was fun to to see their excitement at the adventure of flying since it was Benjamin's first time and the first experience Josh could remember. We don't get to fly as much since we don't live across the country from family.
We arrived in New York City at 6 am EST which was 4 am MST. We were all exhausted. Josh fell asleep in the stroller and slept for most of our five hour layover and Benjamin had no problem sleeping in my arms, although it made it pretty uncomfortable for me. Once we arrived in North Carolina we had a two hour drive to Wilmington.
Kids are amazing in their ability to sleep anywhere at anytime. I wish I could have crashed out like they did.

ok, you are supermom! That sounds like one long, sleepless flight and then a 2 hour drive to the final resting point? It looks like it was definitely all worth it though. How fun!!!
