Hope of America

In fifth grade the kids put on a program called Hope of America.  Throughout the year they learn patriotic songs and put together a program.  If the kids do some extra projects they get recognized.  When the letter came home I put it aside and forgot about it.  Then a few days before they had to turn it in it resurfaced.  Hannah ended up staying home with pink eye for a couple of days so we got busy and did all the projects necessary to earn the Hope of America recognition.  I am really glad she put the effort in to do it.  The program is actually very moving and I found myself crying during a couple of songs.  It really does make you proud and thankful for our freedoms, our country, and the service men and woman and their families that sacrifice so much.

Hannah's projects included writing a letter to the President of the United States, memorizing the Preamble to the Constitution, learning the pledge of allegiance in Sign Language, and a bunch of other things that I can't remember any more.  This summer she got a letter back from the President.  I had forgotten about the letter she had written, so I thought why are we getting this, we aren't supporters.

I am really glad that she was able to do all of the projects and get recognized.  There were only about 10 kids from the whole grade that ended up doing everything.

You can tell she was thrilled to be there.  Really she was, just zoning out.  The kid in the red jersey Caveman jersey next to her is my cousins son (her second cousin)  they were in the same class the first two years we lived here.  We don't have many first cousins, so we will take any cousins we can get.

Here she is looking a little more excited.

Here she is receiving her award and American flag.

A line up of some of the kids that received the award.

A blurry picture of her with her award and her American flag.  Way to go Hannah!

That is so great! I am always so happy though when projects like that are over and we actually finished them! We still miss you!
