The Big 4-0

John had a birthday last week and it was the big one.  Well one of the big ones.  He took it all in stride.  No mid-life crisis.  Although, he did loose 55 pounds over the last 6 months.  As he said, "I am turning 40 and the party's over."  He looks great.  He hasn't been this thin since about 2 weeks after we were married.  He has been great about watching what he eats and exercising, even getting up early on the evenings he won't be able to exercise after work to exercise.  The doctor told him at his check-up that if he can keep the weight off he is adding "years to his life".  Keep it off baby.

We wanted to get away for the weekend, but Benjamin is not a great sleeper so I didn't want to leave him with anyone.

We did make it out to dinner and had a rockin' party on New Year's Eve.  Here is one of the pics of the rockin' party.  They were party animals.  I love that Joshua is sitting in that little baby high chair because he wanted a chair like the 'big' kids that were there.  It couldn't have been comfortable.

I guess this is why people have mid-life crisis.  You realize that you can only invite two families over because that includes a total of 16 kids and your nerves cannot handle any more than that.  That would send anyone into crisis mode.

The count down.  Look at that anticipation. The Huck's didn't leave till One in the morning in 2011!
The Herbert's left at 12:30 in 2011 in the morning not quite as much fun as the Huck's but almost! Just Kidding :)

Time line of his life.  The 80's were a scary decade for him (as it was for most of us).  Glad we didn't meet until the 90's.

One of the games we did at his party was 40 questions about John 'How Well Do You Know John?"  I wrote about 10 questions, then he sat down down to add a few more questions, well 25 questions later he said I may as well make it 40 questions.  It ended up being a lot of fun, and even I learned a few things about him.  Here is a list of some of the things about John:

1. His favorite meal is spaghetti.
2. He loves desserts, especially cookies, carrot cake, and Milky Way Cake.
3. He hit two home runs his whole baseball career (through high school), both on the same day, but in different games. (He was on that day.)
4.  His favorite soap opera was Days of Our Lives.  I know embarrassing.  I do have to add he hasn't watched it in 25 years.
5. His favorite professional baseball team is the Yankees. From our days in NYC.
6. His favorite NFL team is the Cardinals. From our time in AZ.
7. His favorite professional hockey team is the Montreal Canadiens. From his work travel to Montreal.
8. And of course his favorite NBA team is the Jazz. From growing up in Utah.
John picks up a sports team every where we live and makes it his team. He also follows the UCONN girls basketball team from when we lived in CT.  He of course is a big BYU fan and also likes UNC basketball.  I guess it is a good thing we have stopped moving around.  He has ran out of sports to pick up a favorite for.
9. John has attended 5 universities and has degrees from 3 of them.
10. John had Malaria on his mission, and can now never give blood.  It stays in your body, but is dormant. He actually had a recurrence of it when he was in college.
11. He is scared of heights and snakes.  I didn't learn about the former until we were dating and tried to take him up in a hot air balloon.  He was a good sport and went, but I don't think it was his favorite thing.

This is how the evening ended for some of the party animals.  Crashed out in their dad's arms sucking on their thumbs.  :)
John is a great guy and I am so lucky to have him in my life.

Our fun neighbors left John a birthday wish in the snow.  Sad to say it is still there.  Dang it is cold right now.

Great pictures! Hard to believe he is catching up to us (of course that is if we don't count our birthdays!)

How fun!! I wish Brent were more "white". He threatened me about trying to have a party for his 40th. But that shouldn't suprise you as you were reminded of his charming personality during our little neighborhood visit out on the driveway while you were here :) Anyway...I really enjoyed the list. We'll forgive him for his Yankee choice but he partially makes up for it in the fact that he watched Days of Our Lives. He and I would have totally hung out back in those days!! And I'm sorry we missed sending a birthday wish. Brent said "don't let me forget to call John" and then my terrible memory forgot. Give him a birthday shout out from us. He is a wonderful guy and are so glad we had your family as neighbors!
