North Carolina... New York

So while Caroline and Grace were in Jackson, Johns' Grandfather passed away.  John had planned to take the girls to North Carolina with him later in the summer, so when his grandfather passed away we decided to make the trip a month early.  The girls came home on Tuesday at 5:00, repacked and left for the airport at 9:00 that night.  They had a redeye flight that arrived in N.C. the next day at 11:00, they then had to wait around Raliegh until John's cousin arrived at 2 in the afternoon and finally had a two hour drive to Wilmington, so including their travel time from Jackson they had been traveling for over 24 hours.  They were pretty good sports, with only a few melt downs.  (You don't want to get Grace too tired or hungry.)

While hanging out in Raliegh they were able to see the N.C. temple as well as Tar Heel country.  The funeral was the following day.  There were a couple of other young cousins there so it made the experience more enjoyable for them.

The final two days were filled with fishing, hanging out at the beach, and playing with cousins.

Dang, how do you rotate pictures?  The girls in front of the Raleigh Temple.
Caroline loved the ocean and learning how to 'ride the waves'.

From looking at the pictures you would never know they were there for a funeral.  We will miss Grandpa Flowers and visiting him in North Carolina.

So, John and the girls left on Sunday morning to return home.  However, they weren't able to make it on their flight leaving Raleigh.  They were flying standby and the flight was full so they had to wait for the next flight, which got them into NYC too late to catch their next flight.  They spent the night in NYC and were looking forward to spending the day there, however, they ended up needing to take an earlier flight since the later flight was also filling up.  They were able to spend the morning in NY, but weren't able to go downtown, since they needed to get back to the airport.

They did get to ride the subway... and eat street vendor food.  What more do you need for a New York experience?

They became good little travel buddies.  Ten days and three states later, they made it home.

Can't wait till we can all go back and really visit New York.  I LOVE that city.  I loved when we lived there.  It just has an energy and excitement you can't get anywhere else.

I'm exhausted just reading about their travel log!!! :) Sorry about the passing of John's grandfather. But how nice that John got to spend some time with the girls. We sooooo miss NYC. Jack took on a new role at Starbucks which means he will be in the City a couple times a month. I'm hoping to catch a trip or two with him. It's been way too long... Looking forward to seeing you guys soon. We'll bin UT from July 20-Aug. 9!
