John and I are getting ready to go on Trek in a couple of weeks. It has been so much fun for me to read about my ancestors and learn some amazing things about them. My father's side are immigrants from Germany in the late 1800's early 1900's. They were converts at came to America through Ellis Island. However, my mother's side and my father maternal side have lots of pioneer ancestors. In studying and preparing I learned that one of my ancestors, Joseph Knight, was one of the first members of the Church. He was baptized in 1830 by Oliver Cowdery. His son, Newell Knight, married Lydia Goldwaite, who was taught the Gospel by Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith married Lydia and Newell. I could go on and on with neat facts and amazing stories, and I will in another post. My thoughts today are about how grateful I am that they kept records. All of these stories and little bits of information would be lost without someone taking the time to write them down.
The message this month in visiting teaching was on family history. As we discussed the message we talked about a 'time and a season' for everything. Perhaps our lives are too filled with little/big children and their needs to be able to spend the many hours at the computer necessary to do research, however, it is just as important to record our own family history for our own prosperity to read. I told them that I found the easiest way for me to record our history was on the computer, writing a blog. I knew I hadn't done well in the last several months, but I decided I would try and get caught up. I was dismayed to see that my last entry was on Grace. We have since had 3 more birthdays, a family trip, and the end of school. Not to mention dozens of other less significant, but still worthy mentions.
I need to do better. So that is one of my goals. There is so much to try and accomplish in a day. I need to become more organized with my time so that I can get to everything I want to. However, you will see me writing more for my children and grandchildren to document our testimonies, trials, and everyday living.
