A couple of months ago we headed out to Miller Motor Sports Park to participate in our first bike race and to support Anne Marie who was in charge of the entire event. We had so much fun despite the cold weather early in the morning and the very strong headwind we had for the first part of the race.
The bike race was a fundraiser for the Special Olympics. It was geared to family's so there was really something for everyone. While we biked out on the roads, my Mom and Kim biked the race track with the kids. They also had a climbing wall, jump house, picture booth, sign making, and bike tags for the kids to participate in.
My dad and I did the 30 mile race. Heading out I had serious misgivings about the race. I knew that I would make it, I just didn't know if I would enjoy it. The wind was so strong! I seriously prayed that the winds would let up when they finally did I enjoyed it much more.
Meanwhile, John was off on his own adventure. He had decided to participate in the 60 mile race, but after a downhill portion of the race he was feeling great and decided to go for the 100 mile. After he made the decision and the two paths split between the 60 and 100 milers it got tough. But he was an animal and pushed through it on his mountain bike. Yes, mountain bike. Anyone that bikes knows that there is a difference between biking on a mountian bike and biking on a road bike. The mountain bike is much thougher, but seriously he has legs of steel. He finished the race and after a couple of hours even said he would do it again next year on his mountain bike. I thought the next day he would be dead, but he wasn't even sore.
We all had a lot of fun. We will definately do it again next year.
