Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest, one of my favorite traditions! Since I was in high school we would go up to Snowbird where they celebrate Oktoberfest during the month of September.
My grandfather was 100% German, both of his parents were immigrants from Germany. Germans are hard workers, I am guessing that the beer loosens them up somewhat, but since we aren't drinkers we didn't have that luxury. :) Love my Grandfather.

I remember taking my grandparents up there with us. The mountains are a beautiful place to be, especially as Fall is starting to make its appearance. The weather is perfect, not too hot or too cool. We dance and eat sauerkraut. I remember my Grandma doing the Chicken Dance with us, we never could get Grandpa out there. That would have taken a few beers.
I love traditions because they help cement the memory in your mind. If we had only gone once or every now and then I probably wouldn't remember as much, but each year reinforced the memory. I remember different things from different years. I love that those memories include my grandparents, especially since it was something that taught me about my heritage. I feel like I know my great-grandparents even though I never met them. I imagine somewhat what their life in Germany must have been like.

I like that my kids get to have some of the same memories and traditions that I had.
